This policy explains what WebMotion HQ collects when you use this website, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do with it. It is written to be read rather than to protect us, so if anything here is unclear, that is a fault worth telling us about.
It covers this website only. Software we build and operate for clients is governed by that client's own privacy policy — if you are a user of a system we built for someone else, their policy applies, not this one.
Who we are
WebMotion HQ is a software development company with offices in Lagos, Nigeria and Edinburgh, United Kingdom. For the purposes of data protection law we are the data controller for information collected through this website.

What we collect
Information you give us
When you complete a contact or demo form we collect your name and email address, plus anything else you choose to include — typically a company name, a phone number, and a description of what you need. You decide how much of that to provide; only a name, an email address and a message are required.
When you subscribe to updates we collect your email address and nothing else.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our servers record the pages requested, the approximate location implied by your IP address, your browser and device type, and the site that referred you. We use this to understand which content is useful and to diagnose faults. It is not used to build a profile of you.
Account and purchase information
If you register for an account or buy a template, we store the details needed to give you access and to keep a record of the transaction. Card details are handled entirely by our payment provider and never reach our servers. We can see that a payment succeeded and for how much; we cannot see your card number.
Why we collect it
Enquiry details are used to reply to you and, if we end up working together, to deliver the project. Analytics data is used to improve the site. Your email address is used for updates only where you have asked for them, and every message includes an unsubscribe link that works immediately.
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information, and we never will. We share data only with the service providers who make the site function — hosting, email delivery, analytics and payment processing — and only the minimum those providers need to do their job.
Legal basis for processing
Where the GDPR or the Nigeria Data Protection Act applies, we rely on one of the following:
- Contract. Delivering a project, providing account access, or processing a purchase you asked for.
- Consent. Marketing emails and non-essential cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time, and withdrawing it is as easy as giving it.
- Legitimate interests. Replying to an enquiry, keeping the site secure, and understanding which pages are read. We have weighed these against your rights and consider them proportionate; if you disagree, you can object.
- Legal obligation. Keeping financial records for the period tax law requires.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. We use them for three purposes:
- Essential cookies keep you signed in and protect forms against cross-site request forgery. The site does not function without them, so they cannot be switched off.
- Analytics cookies tell us which pages are read and where visitors leave. We use Google Analytics for this.
- Advertising cookies are described in the next section.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies will break parts of the site, including signing in.
Advertising
We display advertising on our articles. Advertising is limited to the Insights section; our service, product and contact pages carry no ads.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this and other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices, or in Europe at youronlinechoices.eu.
- Third-party vendors and ad networks may serve ads on this site and may use cookies to do so. We do not control those cookies and cannot access them.
We do not knowingly serve personalised advertising to anyone under 18, and we do not permit targeting on sensitive categories.

When a retention period ends the data is deleted, not archived indefinitely. Data we no longer need is data that can still be breached.
Where your data is held
Our servers and service providers may store data outside your country, including in the European Union and the United States. Where information leaves its country of origin we rely on the standard contractual protections those providers offer. If you would like to know which providers are involved in a particular process, ask and we will tell you.
Your rights
Whether you are covered by the Nigeria Data Protection Act, the UK GDPR, or the EU GDPR, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal data we hold about you, and give you a copy;
- correct anything that is wrong or incomplete;
- delete your data, where we have no legal obligation to keep it;
- stop using it for marketing, which we will action immediately;
- restrict or object to a particular use;
- receive your data in a portable format, or have it sent to another provider.
Email support@webmotionhq.com and we will respond within thirty days. There is no charge, and you do not need to give a reason.
If you are unhappy with our response you can complain to your national data protection authority — in Nigeria, the Nigeria Data Protection Commission; in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office. You do not need our permission to do so.
Security
Traffic to this site is encrypted in transit. Access to enquiry and account data is limited to the people who need it, and that access is reviewed periodically. Passwords are stored hashed, never in a form we could read.
No system is perfectly secure and we will not claim otherwise. If a breach affects your data we will tell you and the relevant regulator within the time the law requires, and we will tell you what actually happened rather than the smallest version of it.
Automated decisions
We do not make decisions about you by automated means, and we do not profile visitors. Nothing on this site scores, ranks or categorises you.
Children
This site is intended for business users and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes we update the review date shown at the top of the page. Material changes affecting how we use data we already hold will be notified by email to anyone we hold an address for — we will not rely on you noticing a quiet edit.
